the web services promise the Windows computing revolution
the next phase a smart virtual world
|
| |
inteRAD's research focus is the enablement of "smart business" through web service technology.
Following the 2004 Software Conference, commentators wrote "The age of software as a service has already arrived, and it will completely change the I.T. landscape".
Web services potentially present one of the more exciting innovations in the history of computing.
Over 20 million small businesses in the US do not have web sites. Their reason: too costly and too complex.
As a mass market solution, the Web fails if it requires extensive technical skill to harness its power.
The focus of inteRAD's extensive research has been the replacement of complexity with elegantly simple, robust, open solutions which end the "this doesn't go with that" dilemma in computing and bridge the gap between I.T. specialists and ordinary users. |

'Web services' is the term used to describe the software modules that operate 'behind the scenes' on interactive and eCommerce web sites. Web services power 'smart business' on the World Wide Web.
Properly embraced, a web services computing model creates a cohesive environment in which legacy data and applications, new applications, transitional software solutions, and new concepts integrate seamlessly, with virtually unlimited scope for ongoing modification to cater to new needs.
Today's software market demands:
- ubiquity -- effortless computing through every day devices, rather than through PCs and personal digital assistants.
- business agility -- the ability to change computing processes instantly to support new business decisions
- integration -- an end to the "this doesn't go with that" problem and global access to a central data set via any software application
- affordability -- low cost, pay for use access to software solutions replacing costly software licensing programs
- elegant simplicity -- easy to use, task specific modules replacing complex, resource-hungry software programs with hundreds of seldom used features
- configuration and upgrade automation -- an end to buying and installing upgrades and managing configuration settings to match your system
These goals will be achieved by moving from today's client/server computing model and boxed software applications that install from CD to your office PC, to a web-centric connected computing model -- using the Web as a central hub to access applications and data on host servers.
Success in this endeavour, however, requires both harnessing the power of the Web in new and innovative ways -- and educating the masses to understand a medium that many today regard as too costly and too complex even to support a simple business web site.
Widespread delivery of the exciting benefits of web-centric connected computing requires a revolution in consumer thinking. Such a revolution can only be driven through a carefully staged program delivering easily understood, low cost benefits on a platform built for seamless growth.

| the 'Windows' computing revolution |
| |
In the early 90s, the small business world began transition from DOS computing platforms to an MS-Windowstm-based environment. That transition drove massive computing industry growth, changing forever the way business management tasks were performed.
This revolution was not driven by grandiose promises of ubiquity, agility, and connectivity -- promises that few understand, and fewer believe. It was driven by the delivery of recognisable improvements in simplicity and affordability -- benefits all consumers understand and appreciate.
A gradual -- yet relatively rapid -- transition commenced with the delivery of very low cost, appealing innovations described in simple terms.
Simplifying everyday tasks, introducing an element of play, and facilitating easy and affordable access, stimulated widespread interest.
It was the scalability and scope of the offering, however, that ensured its widespread acceptance and longevity. Presented initially with limited functionality, MS WindowsTM was not so much a product -- but a platform, built to grow and become pervasive. The key to its acceptance was its capacity to provide a foundation on which others could conveniently build almost any software tool that could be imagined.

| the next phase |

The challenge today is to drive the transition to web-centric connected computing in a similar way.
The mass market will respond neither to grandiose promises and costly, complex product offeringsnor to simplicity achieved by limiting flexibility and growth options.
Educating the masses to view the World Wide Web as a central hub for all communication and computing functions -- and not as an information repository and advertising medium -- requires a platform that is open, robust, scalable, and extensible to support unlimited growth -- yet presents as an elegantly simple, accessible, and outstanding affordable solution to a commonly understood problem.
inteRAD's Web Publishing and eCommerce Platform was conceived and constructed specifically to meet that need.

Affordable, easy to use software that adapts to changing business models is the dream of businesses both large and small.
InteRAD's web publishing and eCommerce platform offerings are being developed to provide a fully integrated, customisable and extensible modular suite of business management tools designed specifically for a web-centric world of digital communication. Using the web service model of delivery, even the smallest business can enjoy the benefits of custom-built software - previously the exclusive domain of large corporations.
Covering the full range of mangement and general administrative functions, inteRAD's suite will deliver a web-based solution that integrates smoothly into existing business environments and can be extended with third party modules which simply plug into a flexible framework.
Platform independent, mobile device aware, and integrating seamlessly with popular office applications, this product will end the "this doesn't go with that" problem commonly experienced by users of business software -- enabling smarter business management.
